Convention Programs 2017

The total species reported for the three-day OFO Convention at Long Point and nearby areas (September 22 to 24) currently stands at 188. This total is the highest ever recorded at an OFO convention. The previous highest was 184 species observed at Point Pelee in 2015.

Despite the unprecedented extended period of clear and HOT days before and during the Convention, participants were treated to an excellent variety of species on the many field trips led by experienced and enthusiastic birders. Once again, the tremendous birding potential of the Long Point area was apparent.

Noteworthy birds included: Cackling Goose, King Rail, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Parasitic Jaeger, Little Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, White-eyed Vireo, Hooded Warbler and Yellow-breasted Chat.

Total species reported for the following groups are shown in parentheses: ducks (19), shorebirds (18), gulls (6), warblers (24) and sparrows (8).

Thanks again to all the organizers, Bird Studies Canada, trip leaders and participants for a very successful convention.

Hope to see you at the next OFO Convention at Point Pelee on 28-30 September 2018.
