Field Naturalists

Sault Ste. Marie Field Naturalists – while not strictly birding focused, the Sault Naturalists provide weekly outings on both sides of the border, many of which are focused on birds, especially during spring and fall migration. They also have monthly meetings with a variety of interesting guest speakers. Learn more on their website here.

Land Trusts

The Kensington Conservancy – This land trust works to protect ecologically sensitive land in the St. Joseph Channel area. The public are welcome to explore and bird the Foster Parkland and Walking Trails, a 3.5km hiking trail located in Desbarats, where over 150 bird species have been recorded. Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy – Based in Sault Ste. Marie, this land trust works on both sides of the border to protect habitat within the Lake Superior watershed, as well as provide public education about freshwater protection. Learn more on their website here.

Algoma Highlands Conservancy – This land trust works to protect land in the Algoma Highlands area just north of Sault Ste. Marie. Make sure to check out their trails, including the spectacular views from Robertson Cliffs. You’ll likely see some birds along the way! Learn more on their website here.
